I think the pitch works extremely well with the Rocket Wreckers theme, with some adjustments.

Rather than the rival wreckers going in opposite directions, make it a race. The trick-taking could represent building up speed, while the Jokers represent throwing things, or ripping parts off of opponent’s rockets.
